Head Teacher's Newsletter

06.06.14
Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a restful half term.  The children have been sharing some of the things they have been doing with their friends and staff.  They used some of their ideas in their writing and art work this week.

Our additional after school clubs have got off to a flying start.  In drama the children were working together on expressing their emotions.  In art the children were drawing circus pictures and in Music Making they were learning about rhythm and making simple raps in time with the rhythms they had created.  There are still a few places left in the Music Making Club.  The After School Club staff has requested that if you are picking up children from these activities that siblings do not use the adventure playground whilst you are waiting.  This causes difficulties for staff when managing children in After School Club.

On Wednesday the year two children had a fantastic day at The Dudley Museum and Art Gallery.  The focus of the visit was dinosaurs but there were lots of other things to explore as well.  The workshop providers were very impressed with how knowledgeable our children were and commented on their exceptionally good manners.  It was a pleasure to watch and listen to them throughout the day.  If you would like to see pictures of the visit you can find them on our website under the ‘News’ button.

On Thursday we had a visit from the Quantum Theatre Company who introduced us to The Count Back Kid.    The show was set in the Wild West and had a maths focus.  They looked at number lines, hundred squares, odd and even numbers and counted on and back in tens from any given point.  The children learned that you do not need a calculator to work out number problems!

Mrs Wheeler and Miss Western were kept very busy on their visit to our Spanish partner school during half term.  A copy of their report can be found on the website, again under the ‘News’ button.  Also on the ‘Blog’ section of the website you can listen to the children singing our new Comenius Song.  Each of the schools we are linked with told us about what they do to look after the environment and we put it together to create a song that everyone could learn.

And finally this week eight of the children who entered the Tennis Tournament were successful in getting through to the next stage.  Well done to all the children who took part.

Kind regards
